Engineered wood

Solid hardwood flooring is an excellent material, and, indeed, you can't go wrong when you choose traditional unfinished or prefinished planks. However, engineered wood may be the better choice for your application. Remember that engineered wood flooring.

Engineered wood has a base layer of plywood and a hardwood surface layer. Along with budget considerations, engineered wood may be best for your application because:

● planks tolerate moisture to be installed in basements, laundry rooms, mudrooms, and other moisture-prone spaces.

● planks are not attached to the subfloor. Instead, they float over the subfloor.

Solid wood

Solid hardwood flooring is nailed to a wood subfloor, whether finished in your home or the factory. Use unfinished hardwood, and your floor will have a flush look. In contrast, your floor will have a beveled look if constructed with prefinished planks.

Another difference between the two types of solid hardwood flooring is the finish used on the planks. Factories can generally apply more potent sealants than on-site installers using high-tech equipment.

All three types of wood can be refinished when the sealant becomes worn, although engineered wood can usually only be sanded down one time.
